Lusardi Tower Marks New Era of Care at Scripps Encinitas
New tower brings expanded care and technology to North County

In May, Scripps unveiled one of its most significant investments in healthcare in North County with the opening of the Lusardi Tower at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas — marking a critical expansion needed to accommodate the region’s increasing population and evolving healthcare needs. The new 140,000-square-foot tower increases the hospital’s bed capacity from 187 to 235.
Patient-centered design meets advanced technology
The Lusardi Tower blends advanced technology with patient-centered design, using evidence-based principles and input from physicians, nurses, leaders, architects and support staff to enhance both clinical care and patient experience.
The facility includes expanded space for specialties such as pulmonology and gastroenterology, advanced digital monitoring and private rooms designed for comfort and healing.
“Growing communities experience a greater complexity of medical conditions, and they need more healthcare resources to address them,” says Scott Eisman, MD, physician chief operating officer at Scripps Encinitas. “This expansion of the hospital brings the latest technologies and practices to our patients in an environment that maximizes the abilities of our physicians and nurses to provide the highest quality care available.”

A more comfortable hospital experience
Natural light, soothing colors inspired by the surrounding landscape and local artwork help create a calming environment for patients and loved ones. Centralized nursing stations and glass-enclosed physician huddle rooms allow care teams to stay closely connected to patient areas while supporting efficient collaboration.
“It's one thing to build a hospital; it's another thing to make it come alive, and it comes alive with our medical staff, wonderful doctors, nurses and technicians of all kinds, who will care for thousands of our patients in the decades to come,” says Dr. Eisman.

Jeannie and Gerry Ranglas’ support named the hospital's birth pavilion.
The tower includes a 16-bed postpartum unit connecting to the birth pavilion.
