The Conrad Prebys Foundation: Rising to the Challenge

The Conrad Prebys Foundation: Rising to the Challenge

In the early stages of the pandemic, The Conrad Prebys Foundation generously stepped up to support Scripps efforts to fight COVID-19 with a $1 million challenge grant. The gift, coupled with matching donations from members of the community, supported front-line health care workers as they bravely took meaningful action during the pandemic. From innovations in care to rapid technology development and ensuring that Scripps patients and frontline teams remained protected and equipped to respond to the pandemic, the bold move of The Conrad Prebys Foundation made an impact that saved countless lives.

The unique challenge grant was designed to inspire others to join The Conrad Prebys Foundation in supporting Scripps. The tremendous response from the community enabled Scripps to rapidly receive the matching funds from The Conrad Prebys Foundation and put them into action.

Conrad Prebys was a dedicated supporter of Scripps during his lifetime. He was a philanthropic leader in San Diego, donating more than $81 million to Scripps Health to help fund new facilities that bear his name, including the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute located on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, as well as the Conrad Prebys Emergency and Trauma Center and the soon-to-open Prebys Cancer Center at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego.

Now, The Conrad Prebys Foundation advances Conrad’s legacy with support for medical research and treatment, performing and visual arts, public broadcasting, and other charitable purposes consistent with Conrad’s history of philanthropy during his lifetime, with an emphasis on philanthropy in the San Diego area.
